A 3D furniture visualization app that lets users try different combinations of fabric and furniture.
Overview
Dybo (previosly helloVoRld) is an early-stage startup founded by students of BITS Pilani. It aims at building 3D visualization software for the furniture and decor industry. Their solutions(Apps) provide an interactive and immersive experience for the buyers
and sellers. Thus, simplifying the sales processes for these industries.
Objective
To design a furniture visualization app for retail furniture stores.

Existing Problem
Lack of customization and experimentation platform in Indian market for furniture and
decor. Customers can only choose from what's made already or whatever renders are
available.
Customers going to buy furniture like to get their furniture made from scratch in Indian markets. For that they have to choose a furniture and a set of fabrics for the furniture. While choosing a set of furniture and fabric they can only
make a guess at how the particular combinations would look like at their home/workspace. Which is a risk that most customers have to take.
This was a key pain-point for both the seller and the customer, as they can't visualize the combination beforehand and can only show a sample of the fabric to the customer. The customer may or may not be satisfied with the end product.
Dybo started out as a service which provided furniture renders to solve this problem, but getting so many combinations modeled and rendered was a tedious task and hence they were looking for a solution to simplify the process.
Proposed Solution
An app which lets the sellers customize combinations of furniture and fabrics and show the render in real time to the customers.
This app would eliminate the need of making estimate about how the combination will look. The customers can have a realistic render of what the furniture will look like with the desired fabric and room settings beforehand and make an informed
choice rather than having to make a guess.
Target Users
These personas are an amalgamation of our personal experiences as a furniture buyer, and the problems that the start-up founders had identified during their market research. We have tried our best to put ourselves in the shoes of the users.
Customers buying furniture
Salesperson
Feature Set
Be able to choose from a set of furniture collections.
Provide the option to browse through catalogues to choose the fabrics.
Simultaneously be able to experiment with combinations of different fabrics with furniture.
Be able to apply different fabrics to different parts of the same furniture(customization).
Be able to change the background colors to match the setting of their own home.
Save and Share the preview to anyone.
Custom color picker to change the color of background.
Be able to interact with the furniture by magnifying and rotating.
Scenarios
Walk Around - Salesperson customizing the furniture and showing it to the customers while carrying the tablet in his hand.
Kiosk - The tablet being fixed somewhere on a table and the customer being able to use it. So the app needed to be super intuitive for the customer using it for the first time.
Pointers
Keep furniture, fabric and background sections separate - let users customize one thing at a time.
The app was made natively for 1280*800px android tablets specifically imported for this purpose. The goal was to maximize the space for preview and provide a simple flow while switching between preview and options.
App should not look like an eCommerce for furniture.

Style
Chose neutral colors so that they don't interfere with the aesthetics of any furniture and fabric renders.
Walls are generally painted in light colors, so there had to be enough contrast between the menu and preview sections. So we went for darker colors in menu and other sections.
Used gradient, shadows and geometric font for a premium and modern look.

What's Next?
The app has been developed but the COVID situation has put a halt on all of the businesses. So we are currently looking forward to collect feedback as soon as things get normal.
